Ana Ivanovic – tennis star
Ana Ivanovic is a Serbian tennis player who was born on November 6, 1987. She is a former world number one and Grand Slam champion. Ana started playing tennis at the age of five after watching Monika Seles on TV. Her parents gave her first racket for her fifth birthday. She practiced in an Olympic-sized swimming pool that had been drained of water and converted into two courts. Ivanovic started her professional career in 2003. She won first title in Canberra. After Canberra, there were titles in Montreal, Berlin, Los Angeles, Luxembourg, Indian Wells, Roland Garros, Linz, Bali and again Linz. Her biggest career success is winning Roland Garros and becoming the world number one. Ana conquered her first Grand Slam crown at the French Open, as she beat Russian Dinara Safina 6-4, 6-3. Unfortunately, all her problems started after great victory in Paris. She injured herself, but she was stubborn and continued playing. It had bad influence on her injury and her form was dropping. About two years Ana was in slump. She has changed three coaches but they could not help her. Finally, in March 2010 she started working with Heinz Gunthardt who helped her to come back in top 20. At the end of 2010 Ana won two titles but decided to cease coaching relationship with Heinz because he could not travel with Ana. Now, Ana is working with coaches of Adidas player development program. She is an offensive baseliner who is notable for her aggressive play. One of her strengths is powerful forehand. Also, she hit a 201 km/h serve in 2007, which is the fifth fastest serve of all time on WTA tour.
The thing that is very important for Ana is her humanitarian work. She is UNICEF’s National Ambassador for Serbia. She uses her name and fame to advocate for children rights, particularly in the areas of education and child protection. Her program is called “School without violence”.
In her free time, Ana likes watching movies, reading and listening to music. Also, enjoys shopping and fashion. Her favourite places to visit are Melbourne, Mallorca, Paris and Rome. She graced more than a hundred magazine covers.
